US Vice-President J.D. Vance has stated that he expects progress from the forthcoming meeting between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy in New York. According to him, the talks could take place on 22 or 23 September on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. At the same time, Vance described Russia’s war against Ukraine as extremely difficult to resolve through diplomatic means.

Vens confirmed that preparations for the meeting were under way
JD Vance In a comment to Fox News, he confirmed the US President’s plans Donald Trump to meet with Volodymyr Zelenskyy whilst world leaders were in New York.
According to him, the talks may take place in the coming days.
«I think he will meet President Zelenskyy tomorrow or the day after. So I am confident that some good progress will be made,» said Vens.
The provisional dates for the meeting are therefore 22 or 23 September. The exact time of the talks was not publicly announced.
Zelenskyy and Trump have already agreed to hold talks
The day before, Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that he had had a telephone conversation with Trump, during which the presidents agreed to meet in New York.
Zelenskyy stated that the forthcoming meeting «could bring about significant change» and noted that there was diplomatic momentum. According to him, the parties are discussing possible de-escalation measures, as well as issues relating to energy and food security and the protection of human lives.
The President of Ukraine also emphasised that the peace process remains a priority for Kyiv.
The talks will take place against the backdrop of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, where around 130 world leaders are due to arrive this week. Trump’s schedule includes a series of bilateral meetings, including talks with the President of Ukraine.
Vance described the war as extremely difficult to bring to an end
Separately, the US Vice-President commented on the prospects for a diplomatic settlement.
According to him, the Russian-Ukrainian war remains one of the most complex international conflicts that the Trump administration is working to resolve. Vance expressed his confidence that the negotiation process would ultimately yield results.
«Do I think the war in Ukraine will eventually be resolved? Yes. It is only a matter of time,» he said.
This is the assessment of the US Vice-President. As of 21 September, the parties had not announced any specific agreements on ending the war following the forthcoming meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy.
