From 1 October, Ukrzaliznytsia is changing its passenger services to and from Sumy due to intense Russian attacks on the region’s railway infrastructure. Four trains between Kyiv and Sumy will be cancelled, whilst services to Rakhiv will temporarily only run to and from Konotop.
Which trains are being cancelled?
The changes come into force 1 October 2026. These are four long-distance passenger trains:
- No. 66 Kyiv – Sumy;
- No. 776 Kyiv – Sumy;
- No. 775 Sumy – Kyiv;
- No. 779 Sumy – Kyiv.
The reason given for this decision is the intense Russian strikes regarding the region’s railway infrastructure. Recently, due to shelling, trains on the Sumy and Nizhyn routes have on several occasions had to be operated using reserve diesel locomotives, diverted via alternative routes and dispatched with significant delays.
What will happen to the Sumy–Rakhiv trains?
There are also changes to long-distance train services via Konotop. The train No. 143 Sumy – Rakhiv will depart from Konotop, and No. 144 Rakhiv – Sumy It will only run as far as Konotop. Consequently, the rail section of the route to Sumy is temporarily shortened.
Bus transfers are being arranged for passengers on these flights between Konotop and Sumy in accordance with Ukrzaliznytsia’s fares. Passengers should allow extra time for changing trains and check the latest information immediately before their journey.
Commuter trains will continue to run
Commuter services in the Sumy region will not be suspended entirely. Trains will continue to run in flexible and restricted mode, depending on the security situation.
