On 3 October, the Ukrainian Defence Forces carried out long-range strikes on targets in Russia, including the positions of Russian crews operating «Iskander» operational-tactical missile systems in the Bryansk Oblast and targets in the Samara region. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He also spoke of «new results» from Ukrainian operations in the Black Sea.
A strike on the positions of Russian «Iskander» missiles»
Zelenskyy reported that, over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian long-range weapons had targeted facilities linked to the supply of Russian troops. According to him, the targets included Russian military positions manned by crews operating «Iskander» systems in the Bryansk region. The President did not specify the number of installations hit, the type of Ukrainian weaponry used, or the nature of the damage.
«The »Iskander« is a Russian operational-tactical missile system capable of launching »Iskander-M« ballistic missiles and »Iskander-K’ cruise missiles. Russia regularly uses these systems to launch strikes against Ukrainian territory.
The Bryansk Oblast is one of the Russian regions from which missile launches towards Ukraine have previously been recorded. In particular, the Air Force reported the use of Russian ballistic and cruise missiles from this direction during previous large-scale attacks.
Ukrainian long-haul lorries have reached the Samara region
The President also announced strikes on targets in The Samara Region of the Russian Federation, which, according to him, are working for the Russian war machine. He did not name a specific facility in his statement on 3 October.
The day before, on 2 October, the Ukrainian side had already reported strikes on oil infrastructure in the Samara Oblast. At the time, the SBU reported that several facilities in the oil transport system had been struck, including the «Samara», «Samara-1» and «Samara-2» stations. These strikes constitute a separate incident and do not necessarily relate to the targets Zelenskyy referred to on 3 October.
A series of attacks on Russian oil and military infrastructure has become part of Ukraine’s campaign of long-range strikes, targeting facilities that provide funding, logistics and supplies to Russian troops.
The strikes took place following a new large-scale attack by the Russian Federation
Zelenskyy’s statement came following a large-scale Russian attack on the night of 3 October. According to the Air Force, Russia used 157 drones, including 45 «Shahed» drones. Air defence forces shot down or neutralised 131 targets, but hits were recorded at 12 locations.
In Kyiv, a Russian drone struck The Northern Bridge. Residential, railway and energy infrastructure in other regions were also targeted. In Chornomorsk, a Russian drone attacked a civilian vessel.
Zelenskyy described the latest Ukrainian long-range strikes as a response to Russian attacks and thanked the units involved for their work.
The extent of the damage to the «Iskander» positions in the Bryansk region, the outcome of the strikes in the Samara region and the nature of the operation in the Black Sea have not yet been officially detailed.
