In some regions of Ukraine, hourly power cuts will be in place from 15:00 on 6 October until the end of the day. The restrictions will amount to one round of cuts, according to the National Electricity Transmission System Operator «Ukrenergo». The reason is the impact of Russian strikes on energy infrastructure and the need to stabilise the operation of damaged equipment.
- From 3.00 pm until the end of the day, rolling blackouts will be introduced in some regions.
- The restrictions will apply to one queue only.
- Power restriction schedules will also apply to industry and business.
- The reason is damage to energy infrastructure caused by Russian attacks.
The timetables will come into effect at 15:00
Just the day before, «Ukrenergo»had not forecast any restrictions for 6 October. However, the situation changed over the course of the day, and the company announced that it would be necessary to implement load-shedding schedules in some regions.”.
The following are provided for domestic consumers hourly power cuts affecting up to one phase. This does not mean that the electricity supply will be cut off simultaneously across the whole country — specific regions, rotation schedules and times are determined by the distribution system operators.
Power restriction schedules will be applied to industrial enterprises and businesses during this same period.
Why was it necessary to implement power cuts?
Ukrenergo attributed the decision to the consequences of previous Russian attacks on the power grid.
As of this morning, new power cuts had been reported in in the Kharkiv, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Where the security situation permits, emergency repair work is continuing.
At the same time, electricity consumption also rose. According to the transmission system operator, on the morning of 6 October it was approximately 2.9% higher, compared with the previous working day. Among the reasons was the overcast weather, which led to a fall in electricity generation from domestic solar power stations and an increase in the load on the national grid.
Are the restrictions linked to a possible new attack?
Information is circulating online that power companies are allegedly reducing the output of nuclear power units as a precautionary measure due to anticipation of a new large-scale attack. As of the time of publication, there is no official confirmation of this information. «In its statement, Ukrenergo explains that the restrictions have been introduced precisely because of the consequences of the Russian strikes that have already taken place and the need to maintain the stable operation of the power system.
Where to view your timetable
The specific times of power cuts depend on the region and the consumer’s priority group. Ukrenergo advises people to keep an eye on announcements from their local regional electricity distribution company. Also, once the power supply is restored according to the schedule, consumers are asked not to switch on several high-power appliances at the same time, so as not to place an additional load on the grid.
