On the morning of 22 September, some customers in seven regions of Ukraine were left without electricity due to Russian drone attacks and artillery shelling. Heavy rain and strong winds caused further emergency power cuts. However, no scheduled power cuts are currently forecast for today.

Consumers in seven regions have been left without power
According to NEC «Ukrenergo», as a result of Russian drone attacks and artillery shelling, new power cuts had been recorded as of this morning in:
- Kyiv;
- Dnipropetrovsk;
- Vinnytsia;
- Zhytomyr;
- Mykolaiv;
- Chernihiv;
- in the Sumy region.
Where the security situation allows, repair teams are already restoring damaged equipment and reconnecting power supplies to customers. The company emphasises that the situation in the power system may change, so residents should keep an eye on announcements from their distribution system operators.
The rain and wind caused further damage to the electricity network
The situation was made worse by the bad weather.
Through heavy rain and wind emergency power cuts were also recorded on Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Chernihiv regions. Regional electricity distribution companies’ teams are working to repair damaged power lines. In the Kyiv region, some customers have been left without electricity due to hostilities and damage to the energy infrastructure, whilst certain settlements have been affected by bad weather.
Electricity consumption has risen sharply
The weather conditions affected not only the grids but also overall consumption.
As at 09:30 on 22 September, electricity consumption was 4.5% higher, than at the same time the previous day.
Ukrenergo attributes this to cloudy and rainy weather. This reduces the efficiency of domestic solar power stations, meaning consumers are drawing more electricity from the national grid.
The company is asking Ukrainians use electricity sparingly between 10.00 and 22.00.
Will there be power cut schedules on 22 September?
