UK hands over new batch of Storm Shadow to Ukraine
The UK has recently handed over a new batch of cruise missiles to Ukraine Storm Shadow, writes Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the deliveries. According to the newspaper, the deliveries are the next stage of Kyiv's support in the field of long-range strike capabilities.
Why it was done before the start of winter
The shipment was made on the eve of the cold war to provide Ukrainian forces with the means to retaliate against Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure and the energy system. Such shipments have been previously recorded as an important element of Western logistical assistance.
Context and past deliveries
Earlier, Bloomberg reported on previous deliveries of Storm Shadow, emphasising that some of these transfers were covert and aimed at restoring Ukraine's stockpile after the depletion of long-range missiles. Also in November 2024, the first strikes by Ukrainian forces using British Storm Shadows were reported.
Possible consequences
Analysts point out that the replenishment of long-range missiles increases Ukraine's ability to conduct precision strikes against strategic and military targets in the depths, but could also exacerbate diplomatic and security tensions between Moscow and the West. The date, volume and exact routes of the delivery have not been officially disclosed due to security concerns.
