At least two people have been confirmed dead after the strike in Ternopil, and rescuers continue to clear the rubble.

Death toll in Ternopil rises to nine: 22 people wounded - Sviridenko

In Ternopil, as of now, the following have been confirmed 9 killed as a result of a Russian strike that almost completely destroyed a multi-storey residential building. This was reported by the Yulia Sviridenko.

More 22 people were injured of varying severity. Some of them were hospitalised, while others were treated on the spot.

The building has been critically damaged - one of the entrances has actually turned into a rubble pile of concrete, metal and facade fragments.


The work of rescuers

Dozens of SES employees are working at the site. The work is getting more complicated:

  • A large amount of debris at different levels,

  • risk of repeated collapse of structures,

  • the need to extinguish local fires at the same time.

Rescuers continue to Search for people under the rubble, It is possible that the death toll could rise.


Government response

Local authorities have set up an operational headquarters to coordinate:

  • evacuation of residents,

  • Accommodation of affected families,

  • fixing the damage,

  • providing medical and psychological assistance.

Svyrydenko stressed that the state would provide support to all victims.


Context.

Ternopil suffered during the one of Russia's most massive combined attacks on the western regions of Ukraine. That night, the Russian Federation simultaneously used missiles and attack drones in an attempt to overload the air defences and cause maximum damage to civilian infrastructure.

Risks to power grids and utilities remain in the city and region.
