Zaluzhnyi: the most likely scenario for the end of the war is a freeze for several years
Former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny said that the most realistic scenario for ending the current war is freezing the conflict for several years. He said this in an interview, commenting on the prospects for negotiations and the options offered to Ukraine for a peace agreement.
«It will be a pause, not a real peace»
Zaluzhnyi stressed that the freezing of the active phase of the war would not mean its end - on the contrary, the parties would use this period of time to regroup their forces, rearm and prepare for a possible future escalation.
«A truce for several years is the most likely scenario. And the parties will use this break to prepare for a new round of confrontation.», - he said.
The conditions offered to Ukraine are not improving
Zaluzhnyi also said that the options offered to Ukraine for a peace agreement do not become more favourable over time - on the contrary, the conditions for Kyiv are getting worse each time.
He stressed that Ukraine must soberly assess the risks, as any compromise must take into account the threat of a renewed Russian offensive after the break.
Context.
Zaluzhnyi's statement came amid active negotiations between Ukraine and the United States, as well as discussions of possible ways to end the war in international diplomatic circles.
Some experts have also previously admitted the possibility of a «Korean option» or another form of frozen conflict.
