Court adjourns case on suspension of UOC (MP) indefinitely
The court postponed for an indefinite period the consideration of the case against termination of the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate). This became known after the meeting at which the claim was to be considered State Service for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience.
The agency requires:
• liquidation of the religious organisation «Kyiv Metropolis of the UOC»;
• transfer of all property, funds and assets to the state, The Metropolitan Church is the only one that owns them.
Why the meeting was postponed
No official reason for the postponement was given. The court said only that the case was being considered postponed for an indefinite period. This means that:
- The process of liquidation of the UOC (MP) is not legally progressing;
- The date of the next meeting will be announced later;
- the parties will have to resubmit some documents or clarify their positions.
Context.
- For a year now, the state has been conducting judicial and administrative procedures to restrict the activities of the UOC (MP), accusing them of having ties to Russia.
- Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada passed a law banning religious organisations associated with the aggressor country.
- The Kyiv Metropolitanate of the UOC disputes all charges and refuses to voluntarily cease operations.
