Sanchenko: Russian performers will be blocked on streaming services by NSDC decision
Russian performers on streaming platforms will be blocked on the territory of Ukraine by the decision of the National Security and Defence Council. This was stated by Alexander Sanchenko, Head of the Subcommittee on the Music Industry of the Verkhovna Rada Committee.
According to him, this is not a general ban on content, but a sanction mechanism that will be implemented through the National Security and Defence Council in cooperation with international platforms.
How the blocking mechanism will work
The process involves several stages:
Formation of a sanctions list
It is planned to create a list of Russian artists against whom the NSDC will propose to impose sanctions. Preliminary, it is about 120 performers.
Cooperation with streaming services
The Ukrainian side will communicate with streaming platforms to implement geo-blocking of content on the territory of Ukraine.
«White lists»
There is a possibility of creating exceptions for Russian artists who publicly condemned Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine.
What will remain unchanged
Currently, the blocking applies to only performers who are sanctioned by the NSDC.
The issue of Russian-language songs by Ukrainian artists remains open.
The authorities note that over time natural development of the Ukrainian music market should reduce the share of such content without additional regulatory pressure.
