SBU strikes oil platforms in Caspian Sea for third time - sources
Long-range drones of the SBU's Alpha Special Operations Centre attacked Russian oil infrastructure in the Caspian Sea. This time, a drilling platform at the Rakushechnoye field, owned by Lukoil, was hit, sources said.
Details of the operation
According to the interlocutors, the SBU drone recorded direct hit to the area gas turbine plant platform. The damage to a critical node led to the facility's shutdown.
This is already Russia's third oil and gas platform in the Caspian Sea, which the SBU has been able to hit recently. The attacks were carried out using long-range attack drones capable of operating at a considerable distance from the territory of Ukraine.
Impact value
Oil and gas platforms in the Caspian are important elements of the energy and financial infrastructure of the russian federation. The destruction of such facilities strikes a blow to the revenues of Russian energy companies and complicates the operation of fields.
Earlier, the SBU has already struck at Russian energy facilities, demonstrating its ability to operate far beyond the combat zone and increasing pressure on the aggressor's economic resources.
Context.
Russia is actively using energy export revenues to finance its war against Ukraine. That is why attacks on oil and gas infrastructure are seen as asymmetric response element and part of a broader strategy to weaken Russia's military capabilities.
