Russian Foreign Ministry warns of risks of a clash with NATO due to EU actions - Ryabkov

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov declared about Risks of a direct clash between Russia and NATO, which, according to him, arise from the policy of European Union.

Moscow's position

Ryabkov claims that Russia does not plan to attack NATO countries and supposedly ready to legally enshrine the relevant guarantees. At the same time, he blamed the European Union for the growing tension, accusing it of escalating and undermining diplomatic efforts.

According to the Russian diplomat, it is the EU:

  • contributes to the deterioration of the security situation in Europe;

  • blocks rapprochement between the US and Russia on the issue of resolving the war against Ukraine;

  • The fact that it is not a «realistic agreement» prevents the formation of, as he put it, "realistic agreements".

Context.

Ryabkov's statement came amid active discussions about the role of Europe in the continent's security architecture and the future formats of negotiations on Ukraine. NATO and EU countries have repeatedly emphasised that the source of tension remains Russia's full-scale aggression against Ukraine, and any risk reduction is possible only if the war ends and Russian troops withdraw.
