President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that Ukrainian pilots will start training on Swedish aircraft this year. As part of King Carl XVI Gustaf's visit to Ukraine, Zelenskyy thanked him for his significant military and humanitarian assistance.
Training on Swedish aircraft
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that this year Ukrainian pilots will begin training on Swedish aircraft. This will be an important step in modernising the aviation capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and enhancing the country's defence capability.
Details on the type of aircraft or the number of pilots who will take part in the training have not yet been disclosed. However, this step demonstrates the deepening of cooperation between Ukraine and Sweden in the military sphere.
Sweden is among the leaders in helping Ukraine
Zelenskyy stressed that Sweden is one of the five largest donors of aid to Ukraine for the Armed Forces and civilians. For 2026, Swedish support already amounts to €4 billion.
This amount includes both military and humanitarian aid aimed at strengthening Ukraine's defence capabilities and supporting Ukrainian citizens in times of war.
Visit of King Carl XVI Gustaf
The President thanked King Charles XVI Gustav for visit to Ukraine, He stressed the importance of Sweden's personal support. The visit of the monarch became a symbol of solidarity and strengthening of relations between the two countries.
Official meetings were held in Kyiv to discuss security, humanitarian aid and future defence cooperation.
New air defence programme and Ukrainian airline
Zelenskyy also announced the approval of a new programme to strengthen air defence and protect the sky. He also mentioned the creation of a new Ukrainian airline with the support of international partners.
The details of the programme are not yet disclosed, but its goal is to ensure reliable protection of Ukrainian skies and modernise the aviation fleet.
