The Security Service of Ukraine has launched a criminal investigation following a Russian attack using a «Geran-4» drone on warehouses in the village of Mila, in the Bucha district of the Kyiv region. The impact and subsequent secondary detonation of the munitions claimed the lives of at least 37 people. The investigation also recorded damage to around 130 houses and other civilian structures.

What circumstances are the investigators looking into?
A pre-trial investigation is being conducted into Article 437 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on the crime of aggression and Article 425 regarding negligence in the performance of military duties. SBU investigators are working in collaboration with other relevant authorities, whilst prosecutors are establishing all the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
The initiation of proceedings under Article 425 means that the investigation is separately examining the possible improper performance of duties by a military officer. This is a procedural classification which, at this stage, does not establish the guilt of a specific individual, their actions or a causal link with the consequences.
On-site work and established consequences
SBU personnel have been on the ground from the very outset and have set up a command centre to coordinate efforts to contain the emergency. Among the damaged properties are around 130 houses and a number of other civilian facilities.
