Starting from 25 April 2026, Ukrzaliznytsia will introduce new ticketing rules for SV (luxury) and Class 1 carriages of Intercity trains on domestic routes. Ticket prices in these categories will become dynamic and depend on four factors.
New rules apply only to the premium class
The changes announced by Ukrzaliznytsia will affect only passengers in SV (luxury) and 1st class carriages of Intercity trains within Ukraine. Other ticket categories remain unchanged.
The innovations will come into force on 25 April 2026. According to the company, the introduction of the new rules is intended to make pricing more flexible and meet demand during the high season.
Four main factors in price formation
Ticket prices in the premium segment will depend on four main factors. The first is seasonality: during peak months, such as August or holiday periods, prices will be higher, while on less busy dates they will be lower. A total of 16 seasonal zones have been identified. The second factor is the day of the week.
The cheapest time to travel is on Tuesday and Wednesday, and the most expensive is on Friday and Sunday. The third is the timing of the purchase: the earlier you buy a ticket, the better the price. The fourth is train occupancy: in case of high demand, the price goes up, and if there are free seats on the eve of departure, it goes down.
The purpose of the changes is to optimise supply and demand
«Ukrzaliznytsia notes that about 30% passengers buy tickets in the last two days before the trip. A new approach should encourage travel planning in advance, which will allow the company to better predict train occupancy.
New rules come into force
The updated ticketing principles will start on 25 April 2026. Passengers planning to travel in Intercity's SV or 1 class cars can already familiarise themselves with the new pricing system and plan their journeys accordingly.
