Russian forces are continuing their intense combined attacks on Odesa and the Odesa region, using attack drones and various types of missiles. Over the past week, 18 people have been killed and a further 69 injured as a result of Russian strikes on the region, including six children. During this period, around 300 aerial targets were directed at the Odesa region.
Odessa is under constant combined attacks
The Odesa region has been subjected to intense air strikes in recent days. Russian forces are combining the use of attack drones with missile strikes, forcing air defence forces to respond to various types of aerial threats.
According to the head of the Odesa Regional State Administration Oleg Kipper, the region has been recording at least 10 air raid alerts a day in recent days. Over the past week, Russia has targeted the Odesa region with around 300 air strikes, with the number reaching 50–60 on some days.
Reports from monitoring sources on 19 July also mentioned missile threats to Odesa and the port infrastructure area. However, a detailed list of the types of missiles used on that particular day requires official confirmation from the Air Force or other authorised bodies.
Eighteen people died over the course of the week
The consequences of the Russian strikes on the civilian population remain the most severe. According to the Odesa Regional State Administration, over the past week, as a result of the attacks 18 people were killed and a further 69 were injured. Six children were among those injured.
The strikes over the last few days have targeted various civilian and infrastructure sites in the region. On 18 July, in particular, an attack on a foreign merchant vessel was reported. As of 18:00, a civilian vessel (the dry cargo ship GOLDEN LEO), which had been attacked by the Russian Federation, was sinking at sea.
Russia poses a constant threat to the region
Odessa’s location on the Black Sea coast makes the city and the region particularly vulnerable to combined attacks. Oleg Kipper emphasised that a significant proportion of Russian missiles and drones are approaching from the sea, which means that coastal areas are among the first to be targeted by Ukrainian air defence systems.
The intensity of the attacks — around 300 air targets per week — indicates the systematic nature of Russian pressure on Odessa region. In addition to posing a direct threat to the population, the strikes pose risks to ports, maritime shipping, logistics and other critical infrastructure in southern Ukraine.
