Robert «Magyar» Brovdi, commander of the Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces, said that Ukrainian drones can now hit targets up to 2,000 km from the Russian border. According to him, this is a significant turning point in the war, and the effectiveness of the use of drones far outweighs their numbers.
Ukrainian drones are changing the rules of war
Russia's deep rear, even at a distance of 1500-2000 km from the borders, is no longer safe, says the Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Robert «Magyar» Brovdi. According to the information he provided in interview BBC News Ukraine, Ukrainian drones are capable of reaching targets at any distance when needed.
According to Brovdi, the Ukrainian forces do not rely on people who avoid mobilisation and focus on those who are ready to participate in the defence of the country. Recruitment is ongoing, although the pace remains slower than the leadership would like.
The priority is enemy manpower
The commander emphasised that the main target for Ukrainian drones is enemy manpower, It's the people, not the equipment or weapons. «No manpower means no assault,» he said. According to him, it is the destruction of enemy personnel that is becoming a decisive factor in deterring the Russian offensive.
Brovdi said that every month Russia is mobilising 33-35 thousand soldiers to the war. Since December 2025, Ukrainian drones have been killing as many personnel as Russia mobilises in a month. This, according to the commander, was a turning point in the war.
Unmanned Systems Forces' contribution to victory
The number of personnel of the Unmanned Systems Forces is only 2% of the total number of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but these units provide 35% of the total result on the battlefield. One in three enemy targets, including enemy personnel, is destroyed by drone forces.
The losses among the personnel of the Unmanned Systems Forces remain less than 1% per year, which indicates the high efficiency and safety of this form of warfare. Brovdi stressed that Ukraine is currently producing the most effective means of destruction, which play a key role in countering the aggressor.
Why it matters
Ability to. of Ukrainian drones to reach targets up to 2,000 kilometres from Russia's borders radically changes the strategic balance. The Russian rear can no longer feel secure, which complicates planning and logistics for the enemy.
The significant increase in the effectiveness of Ukrainian drones means not only an increase in the combat capabilities of the Armed Forces, but also a decrease in dependence on foreign aid. As Brovdi notes, it has become futile to rely on unreliable partners, including the United States, and Ukraine is developing modern weapons on its own.
The successes of the Unmanned Systems Forces indicate a technological breakthrough that is affecting the course of the war and forcing Russia to reconsider its strategies. This boosts the morale of the Ukrainian military and demonstrates Ukraine's ability to develop defence technologies independently.
