The Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine has attacked two large Russian landing ships and a radar station in Crimea. According to preliminary reports, the vessels and equipment were seriously damaged and put out of action.
Attack on Russian landing ships
The DIU targeted large amphibious assault ships of Project 775 Yamal and Project 1171 Nikolay Filchenkov. Both vessels were used by Russia to transport armoured vehicles and personnel to the temporarily occupied territory.
According to available information, the ships have been heavily damaged and are currently out of commission. The estimated cost of the damaged equipment is estimated at tens of millions of US dollars.
Defeat of the Russian radar «Podlet-K1»
In addition to the ships, the Russian Podlet-K1 radar station was hit. This radar was responsible for detecting air targets in the region and providing air defence for the occupied Crimea.
The station is also reportedly out of action, which could affect the Russian military's ability to control the airspace.
The significance of the strike for the region
The disabling of large amphibious assault ships and a key radar weakens the logistics and defence capabilities of Russian forces in Crimea. This may affect further Russian military operations on the peninsula. More detailed information on the consequences of the attack and the reaction of the parties is currently being clarified.
