Defence Forces of Ukraine launched an offensive in the north of Donetsk Oblast. This was reported by the Third Army Corps of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The military announced the liberation of the village of Serednie, as well as the mopping-up operations in Novoselivka, Oleksandrivka, Yarova and areas near Korovyi Yar. Separately, the analytical project DeepState confirmed on 15 September that the liberation of Serednye and the advance of Ukrainian troops near Shandryholove.

The defence forces have liberated Seredne
The Third Army Corps has reported further advances by Ukrainian forces in the north of the Donetsk region, in the Lyman area.
According to the military, the following have been brought back under the control of the Defence Forces: Average. In addition, Ukrainian units carried out clearance operations in Novoselivka, Oleksandrivka and Yarova, as well as the surrounding area near Korovyi Yar.
DeepState He also reported that Ukrainian forces had liberated Seredne and Russian troops were repelled near Shandryholove.
The full extent of the advance and the current front line may be subject to change in light of ongoing hostilities in the area.
Ukrainian troops have been putting pressure on the Russian salient near Lyman for several months now
Signs of a Ukrainian advance on this section of the front had been observed even before the latest official announcement.
Analysts at the Polish Centre for Eastern Studies (OSW) noted as early as the beginning of September that Ukrainian counter-attacks north of Lyman had forced some Russian units to withdraw from territories west of the Netrius River.
According to their assessment, Ukraine has managed to regain control of part of its territory north and east of Svyatogorsk, whilst Russian operations in this sector were in danger of being cut off.
Ukrainian military observers also reported active counter-attacks in the areas of Ridkodub, Kolodyaziv, Novoselivka and Drobysheve. Some of the information was withheld for a time due to ongoing combat operations.
The offensive may ease the pressure on Lyman and Svyatogorsk
The area is of significant tactical importance. For a long time, Russian troops have been attempting to expand their bridgehead north of Lyman and advance towards the town itself.
Liman remains one of the key hubs of the Ukrainian defence in the north of the Donetsk region. In July, the Third Army Corps reported that the town was entirely under the control of the Ukrainian military, although the Russians regularly attempted to infiltrate it in small infantry groups.
Successfully curtailing Russian advances north of the city could push the enemy away from Ukrainian logistics hubs and complicate further attempts to advance on Lyman and Sviatohirsk.
Fighting continues in the Lyman area
Despite Ukrainian advances, the Russian army continues to launch active attacks along this section of the front.
Throughout the summer, the Russians regularly carried out dozens of assaults a day in the areas of Serednye, Korovyi Yar, Kolodyazi, Shandryholove and other settlements north of Lyman.
The Third Army Corps, formed from the Third Separate Assault Brigade, is responsible for a significant part of this section of the front. The corps is commanded by a brigadier general Andrii Biletskyi.
An official statement announcing the start of offensive operations indicates that local Ukrainian counter-attacks in the north of the Donetsk region have developed into a wider operation. At the same time hostilities Operations are ongoing, so figures regarding the territory liberated and the advance of the Defence Forces may change.
