The scale and consequences of the night-time attack on Kyiv

Russian forces launched strikes on Kyiv during the night of 19 July, causing fires in five districts of the capital. The most severe damage was reported in Solomyanskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Desnianskyi and Dniprovsky areas. One person was killed and eight others were injured as a result of the attack.

A three-storey building and more than ten cars were on fire in the Shevchenkivskyi district. The blast wave damaged windows in a 25-storey residential block. Rescue workers were working to free people trapped inside and extinguish the fires in the non-residential buildings. It was here that the deceased was found.

Fires and rescue operations in five districts

A fire broke out in an office building in the Solomyanskyi district; a nine-storey residential block was also affected, with the fire spreading across around 200 square metres. The fires in the residential and office buildings are being brought under control, and firefighting operations are ongoing.

The Svyatoshynskyi district was affected by a fire on the roof of a private residential building. Four residents were rescued during the rescue operation. In the Desnianskyi district, fires were brought under control in two non-residential buildings.

Fires have been reported in cars, a non-residential building and a four-storey hall of residence in the Dnipro district. Emergency services are continuing to deal with the aftermath of the attacks.
