On 13 October, Russian forces launched a drone strike on the centre of Rivne, causing significant damage to the building of an educational institution. This was reported by Oleksandr Koval, head of the Rivne Regional Military Administration. According to him, there are casualties as a result of the attack, and emergency services are working at the site of the strike. Local Telegram channels are circulating information about the use of a «Geran-5» jet drone.
A Russian drone attacked an educational building in the centre of Rivne
On Tuesday, 13 October, Russian forces continued to attack the Rivne region with strike drones.
At around 10.49, local media outlets published a statement from the head of the Rivne Regional State Administration Oleksandra Koval regarding a strike in the centre of the regional capital. «We’ve had a drone strike in the city centre. It hit the building of an educational institution. All emergency services are on the scene. We’re working on it. There’s a lot of damage, and there are casualties,» the official said.
Footage circulating on social media shows a two-storey building with damage to the roof structure and debris scattered across the grounds. However, the name of the educational institution, the extent of the damage to the building and the circumstances of the strike have not been officially confirmed.
There are casualties following the attack on Rivne
Oleksandr Koval confirmed that there were casualties as a result of the Russian attack. There are already 10 people injured as a result of the Russian strike; one person is in a serious condition.
Rescue workers, medics and other emergency services are at the scene of the strike. They are inspecting the damaged building and assessing the consequences of the attack.
The previous evening, 12 October, Russian forces also attacked Rivne with rocket-powered drones.
According to the National Police, at around 9.00 pm, one of the drones damaged a non-residential building in the regional capital.
Bomb disposal experts recovered an unexploded part of a rocket-powered UAV, whilst law enforcement officers cordoned off the impact site.
Russian strikes were also recorded in the Sarny district. There, damage was caused to a disused factory, halls of residence and residential buildings.
