Russian troops carried out a series of strikes on Sumy, damaging a residential building, a shopping centre and the surrounding area. Whilst the aftermath of the attack was being dealt with, the Russians carried out further strikes on the area where the rescue workers were operating. As a result of one of these strikes, a service vehicle was destroyed and a State Emergency Service vehicle was damaged.

Pros. data According to the State Emergency Service, one of the Russian jet-powered drones struck a nine-storey residential block. A fire broke out on the ground floor of the block following the attack.
Rescue workers evacuated the building’s residents and began clearing up the damage caused by the strike. The attack left several people injured six people, including four children.

Another target of the Russian attack was shopping centre “Epicentre”, where a major fire broke out following the shelling.
According to the State Emergency Service, as soon as the rescue workers began extinguishing the fire, Russian troops launched repeated strikes. During one such attack, a service vehicle was completely destroyed. Another of the rescue workers’ vehicles was damaged.
Despite the constant threat of further strikes, staff from the State Emergency Service continued to deal with the aftermath of the attack and provide the necessary assistance to those affected.
The area around the building was hit
Russian troops also attacked the area around a block of flats in the town. Two cars caught fire as a result of the strike. Emergency services arrived at the scene and put out the fire.
The series of attacks has significantly hampered the work of the emergency services due to the risk of further strikes whilst rescue operations are underway. Despite the danger, State Emergency Service units are continuing to work at the sites of the strikes and assist those affected.
