The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said that the Russian army has been losing more personnel than it can mobilise for the fifth month in a row. The daily losses of the Russians amount to at least 1,000 soldiers killed and wounded. Since the beginning of 2026, the total losses of the Russian army have exceeded 141,500 people, of which more than 83,000 are irretrievable.

Ukrainian tactics of active defence

According to Alexander Syrsky, The Ukrainian Armed Forces are keeping up the pace thanks to active defence tactics and the effective work of the Unmanned Systems Forces. An important role in the growth of Russian army losses is played by drone strikes, and deep attacks behind enemy lines.

Increase in strikes on Russian territory

Ukrainian forces are stepping up their attacks on targets deep in Russia's territory, including logistics centres and oil refineries.

The partial suppression of Russian air defence at short range is also noted. This increases the effectiveness of Ukrainian strikes and allows for targeted attacks on important targets.

Why it matters

Growth losses The Russian army's decline in strength and reduced ability to replenish personnel are affecting the situation at the front. Ukrainian drones and rear strikes are changing the dynamics of the fighting, weakening Russian logistics and making it harder for Russia to continue its offensive.
