On 11 October, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported a new Russian strike on the Kharkiv Thermal Power Station No. 5, against the backdrop of the energy truce between Ukraine and Russia announced by Donald Trump. The Head of State emphasised that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had received clear orders, and that Kyiv was awaiting details of Washington’s negotiations with Moscow and Vladimir Putin’s compliance with the agreements announced by the US President. According to Zelenskyy, in the last week alone, Russian troops have carried out more than 200 strikes on electricity generation and transmission facilities, as well as 17 strikes on Ukraine’s gas and oil infrastructure.

Russia attacked Kharkiv Thermal Power Station No. 5

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on Russian forces’ attack on Kharkiv Thermal Power Station No. 5, which is one of the key energy infrastructure facilities in the Kharkiv region. The statement was made on 11 October against the backdrop of diplomatic announcements regarding the cessation of reciprocal attacks on the energy sectors of Ukraine and Russia.

According to the head of state, the Russian attack took place despite the announcement made by the US President energy truce.

No further details have yet been provided regarding the extent of the damage to the station, the number of casualties or any resulting power cuts caused by this attack.

Commenting on the situation regarding the energy truce, Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the relevant decisions for the Ukrainian armed forces.

«The Armed Forces of Ukraine have received clear orders. We are awaiting details of the dialogue between the US and Russia. We also expect Putin to fulfil everything that President Trump has said,» the head of state said.

The President emphasised that Ukraine is awaiting specific information from the US regarding the outcome of its discussions with Russia.

Kyiv had previously confirmed its readiness to mutually cease attacks on energy infrastructure, provided that Russia also honours its relevant commitments.

Over 200 attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector in a week

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also cited figures on the scale of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

According to the president, in the last week alone, Russian forces have carried out more than 200 strikes on electricity generation and transmission facilities. In addition, 17 strikes on gas and oil facilities were recorded during the same period.

Russian strikes on power stations, substations and other critical infrastructure remain one of the main threats to the stable energy supply of Ukrainian cities.
