At least five people were killed as a result of Russian strikes on 16–17 July in Odesa and the Zaporizhzhia region. Russia deployed 130 attack drones and eight missiles against Ukraine during the night, according to the Air Force. Air defence forces shot down 115 drones and five guided air-to-surface missiles, but strikes were recorded at seven locations.

Strikes were recorded at seven locations
According to the Air Force, Russia deployed 130 attack UAVs of various types, seven X-59/69 air-to-ground guided missiles and one X-31P anti-radar missile. The defence forces shot down 115 drones and five X-59/69 missiles. The X-31P missile failed to reach its target.
Two missiles and eight drones were reported to have struck seven locations. Debris was reported to have fallen at a further five locations.
In Odessa, the number of injured has risen to six
Two people were killed following a night-time missile strike on a residential building in Odesa. According to the latest reports, six people were injured, including three children. The injured are receiving medical treatment.

A library, homes and shops have been damaged in Sumy
Three people have been injured in the Sumy community following strikes by guided aerial bombs: a 60-year-old woman and two men aged 57 and 67. The regional scientific library, administrative and office buildings, shops, blocks of flats and private houses were damaged.
The local authorities have set up a disaster response centre. There, residents can submit claims regarding damaged property and obtain materials for urgent emergency repairs.
The Zaporizhzhia region came under 853 attacks in the past 24 hours
As of the morning of 17 July, three deaths and five injuries had been confirmed in the region over the course of 16 July. Three people were killed and a further three, including two children, were injured as a result of an air strike on a residential area of Zaporizhzhia.
Two more teenagers were injured by an FPV drone near Hryhorivka. According to the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration, over the past 24 hours 853 strikes were recorded across 58 settlements and 111 reports of damage to homes, infrastructure, vehicles and outbuildings.
Zelenskyy also reported on casualties in the Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions, as well as shelling in the Kherson, Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
