Iran rejects direct talks

The Iranian government has confirmed that it will not take part in direct talks with the US in Islamabad. Official Tehran insists on a multilateral format with the participation of intermediaries.

Iranian officials said that any contacts with the US delegation would be possible only with the participation of third parties. At the same time, Iran expressed readiness for consultations with Pakistan.

European diplomats called on the parties to exercise restraint and dialogue. EU representatives stressed the importance of avoiding escalation.
