Russia offers the US a «big deal» with potential trillions

Russia has proposed a large-scale economic deal to the United States, which Moscow says could win the Russian president a Nobel Prize To Vladimir Putin and the President of the United States Donald Trump. This is reported by the The Economist.

According to the publication, the documents of the Russian Security Council state that the implementation of such an agreement could have historic consequences for world politics and the economy.

What Moscow is allegedly offering

As the President of Ukraine stated Volodymyr Zelenskyy Citing Ukrainian intelligence, Russia could offer the US economic deals worth up to $12 trillion in exchange for sanctions relief.

According to journalists, possible areas of cooperation include:

  • participation in oil and gas production in the Arctic;

  • development of rare earth metal deposits;

  • creation of nuclear-powered data centres;

  • construction of a tunnel under the Bering Strait;

  • recovery of Exxon Mobil's assets worth about USD 5 billion.

It is reported that representatives of the Trump team are most interested in participating in large infrastructure and commodity mega-projects that could affect global resource markets.

Expert scepticism

At the same time, experts and former US officials believe that the Kremlin's estimates significantly exaggerated, and the trillions claimed are unrealistic.

Even with optimistic forecasts, potential financial flows are estimated at around 340 billion USD per year, which is significantly less than the announced 12 trillion.
Separately, the publication calls the idea of large-scale resource extraction by American companies in the Russian Arctic a fantastic one.

Potential risks

Economic rapprochement between the United States and Russia could help the Russian economy recover and create the preconditions for a new war. The US president should carefully consider the Kremlin's proposals, but in the end cancel such an agreement.
