Fake ambulance smuggling men to Romania exposed at the border
Ukrainian border guards jointly with the SBU exposed a scheme to smuggle men of military age abroad. The organisers used a car stylised as an ambulance for disguise. This was reported by the State Border Guard Service.
The incident occurred on the Ukrainian-Romanian border.
Details of the scheme
According to the border guards, the driver was supposed to deliver five «clients» to the border area, after which they planned to cross the border on foot.
For this «service», passengers paid about $60 thousand.
Law enforcement officers note that the vehicle was disguised as a medical vehicle to avoid unnecessary attention while driving.
Consequences for those involved
The driver faces criminal proceedings for organising the illegal transfer of persons across the state border.
Administrative reports were drawn up against the passengers. Law enforcement officers are currently establishing the whereabouts of the main organiser of the scheme.
