Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the ceasefire for Easter would not be implemented due to Russia's new devastating strikes on the western regions of Ukraine and continued terrorist attacks on energy infrastructure.
Russia ignores calls for an Easter truce
Today, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the powerful strikes of the Russian army in the western regions of the country on the eve of Easter. According to the Head of State, Russia not only does not support the idea of a ceasefire during religious holidays, but, on the contrary, is increasing terrorist pressure on Ukraine.
«Russia responds with «shaheds» and continues its terrorist operations against our energy sector and infrastructure,» Zelenskyy said in his address. The President stressed that such actions demonstrate Russia's complete lack of desire to comply with international humanitarian norms even during the holidays.
Massive attacks on energy infrastructure
Over the past 24 hours, Russian troops have launched several missile and drone strikes against energy facilities in western Ukraine. The attacks resulted in the destruction of critical infrastructure, power outages and damage to civilian facilities.
Ukrainian power engineers are working in an intensified mode to quickly restore electricity supply and minimise the impact of the attacks on the population.
Easter under fire: public reaction
Despite hopes for a temporary ceasefire during a major religious holiday, Ukrainians are once again forced to hide in shelters during air raids. Citizens and church leaders express outrage at Russia's actions, which ignore calls for a ceasefire.
Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine would continue to defend its territory and people, and called on the international community to increase pressure on the aggressor.
