The government launches a new programme to support farmers, including the purchase of livestock, compensation for crop losses and grants for farm development. Farmers will be able to sell cows, goats and sheep to the state at fixed prices. It also provides compensation for those affected by the drought and support for vegetable production.
Launch of the state programme to support farmers
On 7 April, the government will officially launch a comprehensive programme to support the agricultural sector. This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko. From now on, farmers can sell cows (from 3 to 100 heads) to the state for UAH 7,000 per animal, as well as goats and sheep (from 5 to 500 heads) for UAH 2,000 each. The programme is aimed at stabilising the market and supporting small and medium-sized farms.
Compensation and grants for farmers
In addition to livestock buybacks, the government has provided for a number of other compensations. Farmers can receive compensation for crop losses due to drought, as well as compensation for reclamation systems. An important innovation is compensation for the cost of Ukrainian-made machinery and equipment. Grant programmes have also been launched for horticulture, greenhouses, vegetable growing and fruit storage.
How to get state support
To participate in the programme, farmers must apply to the relevant authorities with an application and supporting documents. The government guarantees a transparent and fast application process. According to Yulia Svyrydenko, the programme aims to support Ukrainian farmers in difficult conditions and stimulate the development of the agricultural sector.
