Apple Company journalists are caught in another scandal Politico reported that the corporation secretly recorded and analysed voice conversations of Siri users without their consent.
After the publication of the investigation into Apple's shares went down.
How Apple collected data
According to Politico, employees of Apple's contractors for several years listened to some of Siri's voice commands, including personal and confidential user conversations.
«Some of the records contained fragments of private discussions, addresses, bank card numbers, and even moments of intimacy,» the publication notes.
Apple officially stated that the recordings were used solely to improve the service, but users' consent was not sought.
Company and market reaction
After the material was published Apple shares declined amid investor concerns about potential lawsuits and damage to the brand's reputation.
The company said it was investigating the incident and would “reassess Siri's privacy policy”.
Not for the first time suspected of privacy violations
Apple has been repeatedly criticised for Excessive collection of user data, despite the official policy of “privacy first”.
In 2019, the company had already stopped a similar listening programme after a public scandal.
