Identification of an adjuster in Poltava

The SBU exposed in Poltava an informer who, on the instructions of Russian special services, was tracking the location of Ukrainian troops. The offender was engaged in guiding missile and drone strikes, collecting information about the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the regional centre and its surroundings.

According to the investigation, the informant was unemployed and engaged in cooperation with the enemy through announcements in Telegram channels about the possibility of «easy money». He was travelling around Poltava in a taxi, taking photos and videos of Ukrainian troops and marking them on Google maps.

The significance of the data obtained for Russian attacks

The informant paid particular attention to the combat positions of the AFU's anti-aircraft missile systems and radar stations. These facilities were key to preparing new series of attacks from the Russian side. In addition to military positions, he photographed administrative buildings and car parks of local National Police units.

The offender promptly transmitted information about potential targets to Russian special services in the form of photo and video files linked to electronic coordinates. This allowed the enemy to plan strikes with high accuracy.

Detention and evidence of guilt

The SBU Military Counterintelligence documented the criminal activity of the informant, which allowed to detain him in time and secure the location of Ukrainian defenders. During the searches, the SBU seized the suspect's phone with reports containing evidence of cooperation with the aggressor country.

The conducted photographic and computer forensic examinations confirmed the facts of criminal activity. Investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion of part 2 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for liability for unauthorised dissemination of information on the movement or deployment of the Armed Forces under martial law.

Legal implications and investigations

The offender faces up to eight years in prison. The operation was conducted by the SBU Poltava region under the supervision of the Regional Prosecutor's Office. The investigation is ongoing to identify possible other members of the network and prevent further threats to the security of Ukraine's defence.
