Rivne launched the 14.5 km Northern Bypass, which will relieve the city of transit traffic and improve communication with the western borders. The project includes new construction, reconstruction and repair of road infrastructure. It is one of the largest road projects in recent years and is of strategic importance for wartime logistics.
- The 14.5 km long Northern bypass of Rivne was opened
- The new route improves access to the border with Poland and the international motorway M-06
- 6 km of new road built, 4 km reconstructed, 4.5 km repaired
- The project was launched in 2019, with work suspended due to the war
Details of the Northern Bypass of Rivne project
Northern bypass of Rivne is 14.5 km long and has been opened to traffic. The road provides faster access to the international transport corridor M-06 Kyiv - Chop and the checkpoints of Yahodyn, Ustyluh and Uhryniv on the Ukrainian-Polish border. From now on, transit traffic will not pass through the city centre, which will significantly relieve Rivne.
To implement the project, 6 km of new road was built, 4 km of the existing road was reconstructed, and 4.5 km of the road network and artificial structures were repaired. These works ensure high-quality and safe transport links.
History and impact of the war on the project
The Northern Rivne Bypass project was launched in 2019. With the outbreak of full-scale war, construction work was temporarily suspended. However, due to the destruction of unfinished bridge structures, there was a threat of significant damage, which required the project to be completed in a short time.
The launch of the bypass has become especially important in a time of war. It strengthens transport routes to the western border, which is important for the transport of humanitarian and military goods. The project increases the resilience and reliability of Ukraine's transport system.
Significance for the region and the country
The Northern Bypass opens up new opportunities for the development of Rivne region. Unloading the city from transit transport improves the quality of life of residents and contributes to the economic growth of the region. For the state, this is a project that strengthens international logistics links and increases the efficiency of transport corridors.
The new route will facilitate faster and safer transportation of goods and passengers, which will have a positive impact on trade and cooperation with European countries, in particular with Poland.
Prospects for the development of transport infrastructure
Completion of the Northern Rivne Bypass is one of the largest road projects in recent years and creates the basis for further development of the transport network in the western region of Ukraine. This increases the investment attractiveness of the region and facilitates integration with European transport systems.
In a time of war and increasing logistical challenges, the bypass provides critical infrastructure that supports both civilian and military needs.
