Bulgaria’s Black Sea ports: a strategic role for the EU
Bulgaria presented its vision in Brussels of the strategic role of the Black Sea ports as the EU’s key gateway to the so-called Central Corridor. The Deputy Minister of Transport Anna Natova She emphasised that the country, as an EU member state with access to the Black Sea, is of significant geostrategic importance. It could become a key link in the transit route between Europe and Asia.
This route, known as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, connects the EU and China via Central Asia, the Caucasus and the Balkans. Sofia is calling for investment in the modernisation of port infrastructure, which will speed up and ensure the safety of transport operations.
“We believe that our ports could become important gateways for European cargo,” said Natova, emphasising the need to develop port infrastructure.
Thanks to its geographical location, Bulgaria has the potential to become a major player in international transport, opening up new opportunities for business and the country’s economy. Investment in port modernisation could not only increase transport volumes but also strengthen Bulgaria’s position on the European logistics map.
