The heatwave sweeping across Europe is placing additional strain on Ukraine’s energy system. Energy Minister Herman Shmyhal has announced measures aimed at stabilising the situation.

Measures taken to stabilise the power system
The abnormal heatwave sweeping across Europe has placed a significant strain on Ukraine’s energy system. The Minister for Energy Denis Shmygal announced a number of measures being taken by the Ministry of Energy to stabilise the situation.
One of the key measures is to optimise the maintenance schedules for the nuclear power units. This will help to reduce equipment downtime and improve the overall efficiency of the power system.
«We must ensure the uninterrupted operation of energy facilities, particularly during periods of increased electricity consumption,» said Shmyhal.
In addition, there are plans to complete emergency repair work and commission thermal power generation equipment with a total capacity of at least 300 MW as soon as possible. This will help to offset the electricity shortfall caused by the abnormal temperatures.
The Ministry of Energy is also stepping up efforts to bring additional capacity online through cogeneration plants, thereby enabling the most efficient use of available resources.
Shmyhal emphasised the importance of conserving electricity, particularly during peak hours from 17:00 to 22:00. This will help to avoid power system overload and to ensure a stable supply of electricity to households and industry.
