A new standard for the supply of drones to the army
Minister of Defence of Ukraine Mikhail Fedorov announced the launch of the first phase of the «Basic Level of Support» project. This initiative aims to ensure a steady monthly supply of drones to Ukrainian units. The new system is designed to address the uneven distribution of drones amongst brigades, which complicates the planning of combat operations.
The first drone deliveries will begin as early as July, and units will be allocated a guaranteed supply of UAVs, enabling them to plan their combat operations several months in advance. Orders will be placed via the platform DOT-Chain, which will ensure that the process is simple and efficient.
Which drones will the military receive?
The first phase of the project included the most sought-after types of drones, amongst which were FPV drones radio-controlled drones, fibre-optic FPV drones, DJI Mavic drones, strike bombers, aeroplane-type reconnaissance drones and light strike drones of the Middle Strike class. According to the Defence Minister, these categories are the most common on the front line.
How the new system will work
One of the main problems facing the Ukrainian military is the uneven distribution of drones amongst brigades. This complicates operational planning, as individual units are forced to seek additional resources. Under the new project, each unit will receive a set allocation of equipment, which will enable operations to be planned in advance.
Specific drone models will be selected via the DOT-Chain digital platform. If the required model is temporarily out of stock, the system will automatically suggest a similar drone with comparable specifications.
What will this mean for manufacturers?
The new mechanism is also expected to have a positive impact on the Ukrainian defence industry. Thanks to predictable government orders, manufacturers will have a clear picture of demand for the next 6–12 months. This will enable them to increase production capacity, invest in development and scale up drone production more quickly.
This is only the first stage
The Ministry of Defence emphasises that the «Basic Level of Provision» will become the new procurement model for all branches of the Armed Forces. Following the launch of the system for drones, it will be gradually extended to other categories of armaments and military equipment, making predictable supply the new standard for the Ukrainian army.
