Six people were injured as a result of Russian missile strikes on Balakliya in the Kharkiv region. All those affected are receiving the necessary medical care. Two fires broke out at the impact sites. The blaze engulfed a shop, a garage, a car and the roof of an educational establishment. Firefighters have extinguished the fires.
A shop and an educational establishment caught fire in Balakliya
According to the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in the Kharkiv region, a shop, a garage and a car caught fire as a result of rocket strikes in Balakliya. Another fire broke out on the roof of an educational establishment.
Rescue workers were operating at two locations simultaneously. Once the open flames had been extinguished, they inspected the damaged buildings and the surrounding area.
Units from the State Emergency Service, National Police officers and emergency medical teams were called in to deal with the aftermath of the attack. According to the rescue services, all the fires have been extinguished.
A hospital and residential buildings have been damaged
The explosions damaged a medical facility, multi-storey buildings and private homes. The city authorities also reported damage to administrative buildings and retail premises.
According to preliminary reports, Russian troops struck the central part twice Balakliya. At the impact sites, damage was recorded to three administrative buildings, eight high-rise blocks, around seven private homes and two shops. One of the retail premises suffered significant damage.
Information on the extent of the damage is still being clarified. Municipal and emergency services are inspecting buildings and clearing up the aftermath of the shelling.
Balakliya came under attack several times during the day
The missile strike was not the only attack on Balakliya on 6 August. Earlier, Russian drones had struck the town’s residential area. These incidents relate to different phases of the Russian attack, so data on their consequences should not be combined.
Local authorities are urging residents not to ignore air-raid sirens and to remain in shelters until an official all-clear is given. Final figures regarding the missile strike may be updated once the assessment of all damaged sites has been completed.
