Shooting in Kyiv: The SBU has reported an attack during a search

The SBU links the search to the case concerning the FSB terrorist attack

The SBU claims that an armed group blocked the passage of law enforcement officers with their vehicles and attempted to disrupt the investigation. The Special Operations Centre was called in to quell the resistance «Alpha», whilst the police used their weapons.

The security service reported that some of those who resisted were injured. They were detained, and their weapons and documents were seized. Under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General, proceedings have been initiated in connection with threats and an attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer; the final legal classification is still being determined.

The head of the SBU’s Central Security Office «A» also arrived at the scene, and the area was cordoned off to unauthorised persons. The police closed off Shumskogo Street in both directions, describing the incident as a special police operation.

Official information from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) contains no details of fatalities: the service refers to those wounded amongst individuals who, according to its account, offered armed resistance.

UP also reported on those injured, without stating that the death of one of those involved had been confirmed. The reports of the death require official confirmation.

The media are linking the incident to the disappearance of Stepan Kaplunov

Prior to the incident, the «Russian Volunteer Corps» announced that its deputy commander for combat operations had gone missing Stepan Kaplunov. The security service links the search to the investigation into this case.
