SBU attack on strategic Russian fuel infrastructure facilities
The SBU Alpha Special Operations Centre carried out a targeted attack on two oil pumping stations «Vtorovo and Lobkovo, located in the Vladimir region of Russia. The targets were about 700 kilometres from the Ukrainian border.
The local authorities of the Russian Federation officially confirmed large-scale fires at both stations, which was also recorded by the international satellite fire monitoring system NASA FIRMS. Thermal anomalies indicate serious damage to the infrastructure.
The importance of stations for fuel logistics in Russia
The Vtorovo and Lobkovo stations are critical hubs for pumping diesel fuel, petrol and jet fuel supplied to the Moscow Ring Oil Pipeline. They are also used for transit of oil products for export to the Baltic Sea ports, including the port of«Primorsk».
The shutdown of these plants directly affects the energy security of the Russian capital and its military operations, creating a risk of fuel shortages for industrial centres.
Logistical implications for Russia
The shutdown of the Vtorovo and Lobkovo oil filling stations is forcing Moscow to look for alternative routes for fuel delivery. However, the railway network is already overloaded with military traffic, and road transport cannot replace the capacity of the main pipelines.
This poses the threat of a large-scale logistical collapse, which complicates both Russia's domestic fuel supply and export operations.
Strategic importance of the transaction for Ukraine
The SBU emphasises that such operations have a long-term effect, as they reduce the Kremlin's income from export of petroleum products. These funds directly finance the war against Ukraine.
The destruction of key fuel infrastructure is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at weakening Russia's economic and military capabilities.
