Talks in Kyiv have given cause for hope: Vitkoff has made a statement

Following two rounds of consultations in Kyiv, security advisers from France, Germany and the United Kingdom joined the discussions.

US Presidential Special Representative Steve Witkoff stated that the American delegation was encouraged by the outcome of the talks with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv and was prepared to continue working for as long as necessary. Jared Kushner said that Washington is seeking agreements not only to end hostilities, but also to bring about lasting peace in Ukraine.

The US highlighted its coordination with Ukraine and Europe

Following one of the consultation stages Vitkoff reported that the American delegation held talks with Zelensky a thorough discussion. He spoke positively about the cooperation with the Ukrainian negotiating team.

According to the Special Representative, the US is coordinating its efforts closely with representatives from Germany, France and the UK. Witkoff and Kushner arrived in Kyiv for the first time; the day before, they had spent over three hours met with Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

Kushner linked the peace process to the reconstruction of Ukraine

Kushner described the Russian-Ukrainian war as an extremely complex problem that needs to be resolved. According to him, the administration’s task Trump consists of creating the conditions and arrangements that will enable Ukraine to focus on reconstruction and development after the war.

He also stated that Trump is determined to put an end to the loss of life and, subsequently, to move on to economic cooperation and investment projects capable of creating new opportunities for Ukraine and Europe.

The third stage of consultations is taking place with the participation of Europeans

Zelenskyy reported that the day of talks in Kyiv had been divided into several separate discussions. As of 17:40 on 6 September, the first two stages had concluded, after which the third stage began, involving European partners.

Security advisers from France, Germany and the United Kingdom have arrived in the capital. The first round of talks between Ukraine and the US lasted around three hours. A significant part of this discussion was devoted to to meet Ukraine’s needs as winter approaches, whilst an American official described the atmosphere as positive.

Ukraine is insisting on security guarantees and a just peace

The President thanked the American team and stated that Kyiv is seeking an end to the war, an end to the suffering and a just peace. Ahead of the meetings, he had stated that Ukraine had prepared its own proposals, in which peace, reliable security guarantees and a dignified post-war settlement were identified as key elements.

Consultations are ongoing, but the parties have not announced a final agreement. Following the US delegation’s preliminary talks in Moscow, the Kremlin has not stated that it is abandoning its territorial claims, and the specific details of a possible settlement have not been made public.
