Vladimir Putin’s envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, has travelled to the US for talks with representatives of Donald Trump’s administration, The Guardian has reported. In New York, he is due to meet Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner and other US officials. The visit has been agreed with Putin and follows on from contacts between Moscow and Washington that took place earlier in September.

The new round of talks follows on from the September meetings between Moscow, Kyiv and Washington
5 September Vitkoff і Kushner met with Putin in Moscow; the following people also took part in the Russian contacts: Yuriy Ushakov і Dmitriev. Following that, the American envoys visited Kyiv.
The Ukrainian side described the resumption of the negotiation process as important and spoke of work being carried out on a framework for a lasting peace. No specific agreements reached as a result of those contacts were reported.
The talks are taking place less than a week after Trump signed law, which expands the US sanctions and tariff measures against Russia and entities associated with it.
