On the morning of 3 October, Russian forces carried out a series of drone strikes on Izium in the Kharkiv region. Strikes were recorded at a civilian infrastructure site, on the premises of a business and in the residential area. The State Emergency Service initially reported four casualties and two large fires covering a total area of over 600 square metres; however, the Izium City Military Administration later clarified that the number of casualties had risen to five. They are receiving medical treatment.

A series of attacks on Izium
According to the Izyum Municipal Administration, the attack began at around 07:49. Strikes were reported in several areas of the city. One of the drones struck a warehouse at a processing plant, causing a fire.
In the Lower Town area, the premises and equipment of a local business were damaged, as were the windows and roof of a block of flats. Another strike hit the residential area in the south-west of Izium, where residential buildings were damaged and a fire broke out.

The number of casualties has risen to five
The initial report from the emergency services mentioned four casualties. Later, the city’s military administration updated the information: as of this morning, it is known that five people, who were injured in the attack. They are receiving the necessary medical care.
Details regarding the nature of the injuries sustained by all those affected and the final extent of the damage are still being ascertained. Rescue workers from the State Emergency Service, medical staff, law enforcement officers and utility services are working at the sites of the strikes. Firefighters are extinguishing the fires and inspecting the damaged buildings.
The attack was part of a large-scale offensive against Ukraine
During the night and on the morning of 3 October, Russia launched attacks on Ukraine 157 drones, including 45 «Shahed» jet-powered drones, according to the Air Force. As of 09:00, air defence forces had shot down or neutralised 131 UAVs, however hit were recorded at 12 locations, whilst debris from downed drones fell at a further five.
