
US administration prepares to expand restrictions
US Presidential Administration Donald Trump is preparing a new package of sanctions against key sectors of the Russian economy that could be imposed if Moscow does not end the war in Ukraine. This is reported by the agency Reuters with reference to its own sources in Washington.
According to the publication, the new measures will affect of the banking sector and infrastructure for oil exports, The Russian military budget is still critically important for financing the Russian military.
Ukraine calls on the US to take tougher measures
Last week, Ukraine asked the United States to increase sanctions pressure on the Kremlin, in particular to completely disconnect Russian banks from the dollar settlement system.
The Ukrainian side emphasises that only comprehensive restrictions can stop the financing of the war and reduce Moscow's resources to continue its aggression.
White House refrains from making an immediate decision
According to Reuters sources, President Trump can wait a few weeks, to assess Russia's response to the sanctions already imposed by the 22 October.
“The president is ready to approve new measures if Moscow does not demonstrate readiness to de-escalate. But this is unlikely to happen in October,” the source said.
