The first touchscreen MacBook Pro features an OLED screen
The main change was the introduction of the PROLED XDR display featuring Tandem OLED technology. It offers high contrast, deep blacks and supports touch control.
Apple claims a peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits for HDR and SDR content, and a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1. The refresh rate adapts from 10 to 120 Hz thanks to ProMotion.
The screen also features an anti-glare coating, and nano-textured glass is available as an optional extra.
To enable touch control, the company redesigned the lid hinge so that the display remains stable when pressed. At the same time, Apple has retained the laptop’s traditional design.
Dynamic Island and the illuminated Apple logo
New MacBook Pro It no longer has the usual notch at the top of the screen. This has been replaced by the more compact Dynamic Island, which is used for notifications, Siri functions and displaying active processes.
The company has also brought back the illuminated Apple logo on the laptop’s lid. This feature was last seen on the MacBook Pro before the 2016 design update.
The body is now about one millimetre thinner, and the weight has been reduced. The smaller model weighs around 1.36 kg, whilst the larger one weighs approximately 1.81 kg.
How touch controls work in macOS
Apple has adapted macOS for a new way of interacting with a laptop. Users can scroll through pages with their finger, zoom in and out on photos, move elements around in presentations and manage windows.
However, the touchscreen does not replace the trackpad or keyboard. The system automatically converts touches into the corresponding mouse commands, meaning that many existing applications will support this new method of control without requiring any additional adaptation.
M5 Pro and M5 Max: specifications of the new laptops
New The MacBook Pro is powered by the M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, which Apple unveiled in March 2026.
The maximum capacity of the combined RAM is 128 GB, and that of the storage is 16 TB.
The laptops are equipped with three Thunderbolt 5 ports, an HDMI port, an SDXC slot, a MagSafe connector and a headphone jack. They support Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and connections to up to four external displays.
Apple has also upgraded the cooling system and fitted six speakers with improved bass reproduction. Fast charging allows the battery to be recharged to 50% in around 30 minutes.
