The Trump administration is discussing the creation of a «Core 5» grouping with Russia as an alternative to the G7
Administration Donald Trump considers the concept of creating a new international format Core 5 (C5), which can become an alternative to the modern G7. This is reported by the Politico with reference to sources familiar with the White House's strategic developments.
The idea for the C5 was allegedly contained in a longer, unpublished version of the US National Security Strategy, which, according to the publication's interlocutors, was prepared last week. The format provides for the creation of an informal alliance of five world powers:
- USA
- China
- India
- Japan
- Russia
The political intention is to reshape global influence by creating a platform in which the United States could interact directly with key centres of power, bypassing traditional Western institutions.
What we know about the Core 5 idea
Analysts note that such a structure could significantly change the balance in international politics:
• Russia is rejoining the club of global players despite the aggression against Ukraine;
• China and India become co-architects of the new security system;
• Japan - a traditional US ally, finds itself in the same club as Moscow and Beijing;
- Europe is actually losing its role as a key ally of Washington.
The C5 concept is seen as another possible manifestation of the Trump administration's new geopolitical line, which departs from the long-standing transatlantic model.
White House reaction
The official White House denies the existence of any «unofficial, expanded version» A 33-page document that was made public.
Representatives of the administration stated that:
- There are no other options for the National Security Strategy;
- The allegations about a separate version of Core 5 are not true.
At the same time Politico notes that a number of interlocutors confirm that the idea was discussed within the Trump team as a potential long-term format.
