Orban: Appropriation of frozen Russian assets is a declaration of war

Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban said that the misappropriation of frozen Russian assets is in fact declaration of war. This is how he commented on initiatives to use these funds as part of a reparations loan to Ukraine.

According to Orban, the decisions are made in violation of European law and without Hungary's participation. He accused the supporters of this idea of ignoring EU law.

«Bypassing Hungary, openly and in broad daylight, raping European laws, they are trying to appropriate Russian assets. Bypassing Hungary. This is a declaration of war. So, the appropriation of frozen Russian assets is a declaration of war,» the Hungarian prime minister said.

Orban stressed that Budapest does not support mechanisms that, in his opinion, set a dangerous precedent in international law and could lead to escalation.
