The MEC reduced the list of diseases for unfitness due to lack of personnel
Military medical commissions (MMCs) reduced the list of diseases, which are the grounds for declaring persons liable for military service unfit for service. The reason is shortage of personnel and the need to staff the units.
What has changed
Based on available information, health requirements were significantly reduced. As a result, some citizens are formally recognised as fit, physically unable to fully perform combat or service tasks.
In particular, we are talking about:
Chronic diseases that were previously the basis for limited fitness or ineligibility;
poor general physical condition;
Problems that make it difficult to exercise for a long time.
Consequences.
Experts and the military point out that this practice can lead to:
Reduced efficiency of the divisions;
increased burden on the medical system of the Armed Forces;
additional risks for the servicemen themselves.
At the same time, the command emphasises that decisions are made by in the context of a protracted war and the constant need for human resources.
Context.
The issues of the work of the MECs and the eligibility criteria have repeatedly been the subject of public debate. Against the backdrop of ongoing mobilisation, the topic of the balance between defence needs of the state and the real capabilities of people remains one of the most sensitive.
