Japan has announced a new $40 million grant to Ukraine. Most of the funds will be used to rebuild public infrastructure and improve healthcare services. This is the fifth phase of the emergency recovery programme that Ukraine is implementing jointly with Japan and JICA. In total, Japan's assistance exceeds $700 million.
Focus on rebuilding infrastructure
With over $40 million in new grant funding, more than 15 million will be spent on projects to restore and improve public infrastructure. We are talking about repairs, reconstruction and modernisation of war-affected facilities, as well as creating conditions for a return to normal life in the affected regions.
Support for healthcare and social services
Another $15 million will be allocated to provide medical and wellness services. These funds will help hospitals, medical centres and healthcare facilities to operate more sustainably and improve access to treatment for Ukrainians.
Development of the agricultural sector and public broadcasting
The remaining funding is intended to support the agricultural sector and the development of public broadcasting. This will allow farmers to resume production and Ukrainian media to expand their information capabilities and strengthen their independence.
Context of cooperation with Japan
Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba emphasised that the new grant is part of the fifth phase of the emergency recovery programme that Ukraine is implementing together with the government Japan and JICA. The total funding for this programme has already exceeded $700 million.
