Japan increases contribution to support Ukraine through NATO
Japan provided USD 14,658 million (approximately ¥2.2 billion) under the additional budget for fiscal year 2025 for the NATO Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL). This contribution is used exclusively for the purchase of non-lethal equipment for Ukraine.
Specificity of assistance and coordination with NATO
The supply of non-lethal equipment will be carried out in accordance with agreements with NATO. The equipment is expected to be in line with the standards and format of the assistance that Japan has already provided through the NATO Comprehensive Assistance Package (CAP) Trust Fund for Ukraine.
Japan's policy of support for Ukraine
Japan reaffirms its commitment to supporting Ukraine in achieving a just and lasting peace. In addition, the country plans to deepen cooperation with NATO to help the Ukrainian people more effectively.
The importance of the PURL initiative for Ukraine
The Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List initiative allows NATO Allies and partners to raise funds to purchase US equipment through the Alliance and transfer it to Ukraine. This ensures centralised coordination of the delivery of essential equipment to support Ukraine's defence capabilities.
