On 16 April 2026, Kyiv came under massive Russian shelling. As a result, five people were killed, including a child, and 21 others were injured. Destruction was recorded in Podil, Obolon, Shevchenkivskyi and Desnianskyi districts.
Victims and survivors
Four people were killed in the shelling of Kyiv, including a 12-year-old child. Another 21 people were injured, including emergency workers. According to the city services, the number of victims may be updated.
In Obolon district, two people were killed and six were injured, including four ambulance workers and two policemen.
In Podil district, two people died under the rubble of a residential building, one of them a child, and three others were injured by glass.

Destruction in city districts
The shelling damaged residential and commercial buildings in four districts of Kyiv.
In Podilskyi district, the facades of residential buildings, hotels and adjacent structures were destroyed.
In Obolon district, parked cars caught fire, and a warehouse building, a tyre service and a shop were damaged.
A two-storey residential building was on fire in Desnianskyi district, with no casualties.
In Shevchenkivskyi district, the shelling took place in a playground and near a residential building, also without casualties.
Rescue and evacuation operations
Rescuers and relevant city services are working at the site of the shelling. In Podilskyi district, two people, including a child, were rescued from the rubble of a one-storey residential building. Ten people were evacuated from one of the apartment buildings, no fire or casualties were reported.
All victims are receiving the necessary assistance and rescue operations are ongoing. Information on the number of victims and the extent of the damage is being updated.
The situation remains tense
Shelling of Kyiv 16 April was one of the most destructive days in recent times. The city authorities urge residents not to ignore the alarms and to follow safety rules. Services are continuing to deal with the aftermath of the attack.
